Championship Freecell
Freecell Basics
Championship Freecell is designed to make traditional Freecell easier for beginners, as well as more challenging for experts. If you like puzzle-solving games, and are looking for a solitaire card game that's a real challenge, Championship Freecell is your answer.
Unfortunately, the original Freecell game has one real drawback for the beginner. Although virtually all Freecell hands can be won with some thought, every new player generally loses dozens of games in a row before they get good enough to win even one. This can be rather discouraging. Championship Freecell fixes this problem by letting you start with more than the traditional four free cells (See the Glossary for an explanation of free cells.) We can almost guarantee that you'll win your first Championship Freecell game using 8 free cells. The ongoing challenge is to use fewer free cells as you learn the game.
Rules of Play for Those New to Freecell
Freecell is a solitaire card game. In fact, you don't need a computer to play it at all, but it's easier to play on screen because it can be a bit hard to keep organized with real cards. It's a little like the traditional Klondike solitaire (you know, the "play-a-black-eight-on-a-red-nine" type that comes with every Microsoft Windows computer). However, unlike Klondike solitaire, Championship Freecell takes a lot of thought. If you play carefully and cleverly, you can almost always win, but if you don't you'll almost always lose. For a detailed description of the game rules, read Rules of Play.
Strategy and Tips for Beginners
We've put together a strategy guide and tip sheet for beginners (some of the tips may also be useful to experienced players). The strategy hints are well-known to those who play the game, and we'd like to give beginners a head start in learning them - Championship Freecell is a lot more fun if you know them.
Glossary
Championship Freecell uses a number of terms related to the play of the game and the competition site. Our glossary may help you remember their definitions.
