I don't particularly feel like doing any fancy HTML work, so here's a
basic page.
I will cover the Kenwood TM-D700, Byonics TinyTrak2 and TinyTrak3, and
the Kantronics KPC-3+.
First part will be dealing with the Kenwood TM-D700. First, download
the software.
Now, hook your radio up to your computer. Run the software.
Go to Radio, Read, All. Then File, Save,
and save your current config so you can restore it after Wildflower.
Go to the APRS 1 tab, make sure APRS is checked. For "My
Callsign" put your tactical call...Chase 1 will be
CHASE-1, Rover 13 will be ROVER-13, Marine 21 will be...well...can you
guess? Those that guessed MARINE-21,
you get a prize! Chase units will use a TX interval of 1 minute,
rover units will use a TX interval of 2 minutes. Status TX rate
will be set such that you're transmitting status text (about) every 10
minutes. If your position rate is 1 minute, it will be set to 1/8.
2 minutes, set to 1/5.
Station icons! Icons are purty! We love icons! Chase
units will use a motorcycle icon. Rover units will use a pickup
truck icon.
Marine units will use a boat icon.
Packet TX is auto, packet speed is 1200, UDIGI is blank and digipeater
is unchecked. Packet path is "WIDE1-1".
Data band...which side of your radio do you want to be dedicated to
APRS? For the left side, I think it's "A", for the right it's "B".
I really have no idea what "beep" is. Check your manual.
Same with NMEA vs NMEA96, not sure which you'll want.
Position limit is off. Now go to the APRS 2 tab.
Doubleclick message number 1. Enter "Wildflower Triathlon
[yourhamcallhere]".
Hot diggity! Almost done. Now write the config to the radio
and you should be all happy and good.
TinyTrak time!
Software for the TinyTrak2 or TinyTrak3.
First, read your configuration and save it.
The config options are the same for this, I'm not sure about your
specific hardware configs so I'm going to leave that alone.
For "Callsign", use your tactical call. Chase 1 is CHASE-1,
Marine 21 is MARINE-21, Rover 11 is ROVER-11, and so on.
Digi path is "WIDE1-1". Symbol for chase units is "<"
(motorcycle), rover is "k" (truck), marine is "s" (boat). Table
overlay is "/".
"Auto TX Rate" (TT3) or "Transmit Every" (TT2) should be set according
to the table at the bottom of the page.
Status beacon should be "Wildflower Triathlon [yourhamcall]", transmit
every 4 for rovers/marine units, every 6 for chase units.
Disable mic encoding, time slotting and smart beaconing. Hmm...on
the TinyTrack 3 I'm not sure what manual transmit rate is, can
someone clue me in on this?
Ok, that's it on that, write config and you're set.
And now our favorite, the old KPC-3+.
Download the...oh, right. Plug it in and load up your favorite
terminal program. N,8,1,4800.
Type the following commands (lines preceded by a * are comments)
INT TERM
* Tactical call will be CHASE-1 for chase1, etc etc....see above for
examples.
MYCALL [tactical]
ABAUD 4800
BEACON EVERY 10
CONOK OFF
GPSHEAD 1 $GPRMC
GPSTIME VALID RMC
HEADERLN OFF
HID OFF
DIGIPEAT OFF
MONITOR ON
* See bottom of the page for time intervals
BLT 1 EVERY [timeinterval]
* LTP 1 GPSMT (for motorcycle) or GPSLS (for boat) or GPSLK (truck) VIA
WIDE1-1
* so for the boat, you'd have the next line, modify it for your
appropriate duty type
LTP 1 GPSLS VIA WIDE1-1
* Gotta have your actual call put out to be legal.
BTEXT >Wildflower Triathlon [yourhamcall]
UNPROTO APRSW VIA WIDE1-1
* If you are using the second serial port, you will set:
GPSPORT 4800 NORMAL CHECKSUM
* Otherwise, if your GPS will be plugged into the DB-25, you will set:
INT GPS
That's it! You're done.
